Why “Testing the Market” Costs You More
Pricing high to leave “room to negotiate” is the most expensive mistake a seller can make.
High price, low interest
The further above fair market value you list, the fewer enquiries, showings and offers you receive. Buyers filter by price; an over-priced boat is simply never seen by much of its market.
Time on the market is a tax
A yacht that lingers becomes “stale.” Buyers assume something is wrong and expect a discount. The price you eventually accept is often well below what the boat would have made if priced right on day one.
You pay to hold it
While you “test the market,” berthing, insurance, crew and depreciation keep running. Chasing the market down from above almost always nets less than meeting it correctly at the start.
