The Yacht Buying Process, Step by Step
From first brief to handover, here is the path a well-managed purchase actually follows.
Brief, search and shortlist
It starts with a clear brief — type, size, use and budget — followed by a market-wide search and a shortlist of genuine candidates. This is where a buyer’s broker and real market data save you time and money.
Viewing, offer and contract
You view the best candidates, then make a written offer on a standard contract with a deposit held in escrow, subject to survey and sea trial. Price and terms are agreed on evidence, not emotion.
Survey, closing and delivery
An independent survey and sea trial confirm condition and give you a lever to renegotiate. On acceptance, the balance is paid, title and registration transfer, and the yacht is delivered and handed over. Done properly, it is calm and predictable.
