Yacht Brokers & Buyer Representation
Why the broker you choose — and who they actually work for — is the most important decision of your purchase.
Whose side is your broker on?
Most buyers do not realise that the friendly broker showing them a yacht is usually the listing broker — contracted by, and paid to protect, the seller. That is a legitimate role, but it is not your ally in a negotiation.
What a buyer’s broker does
A dedicated buyer’s broker works only for you. They define your brief, scan the whole market (not just their own listings), value each candidate objectively, negotiate on your behalf, and manage survey, closing and registration to a clean handover.
Does it cost more?
On brokerage sales the seller typically pays one commission that is split between the two sides — so having your own representation usually costs you nothing extra. On new-build and dealer sales the structure differs; a good broker tells you clearly how they are paid.
How to choose
Look for real knowledge in your segment, references from recent buyers, transparency on fees, and access to data. NGY backs representation with our own Buyer Market Analysis, Deal Boards and CMAs, so advice is grounded in evidence.
