LA FENICE?s origins give her a uniquely purposeful elegance: a hull conceived for range, stability and composed performance in open water. Laurent Giles shaped her with the quiet confidence of a designer working at the top of his game, producing a vessel that remains remarkably efficient and soft-footed underway more than six decades later.

Launched in 1962 as Diadem of Dewlish, she was created as the travelling mother ship for financier J.A. Boyden?s America?s Cup campaign with Sovereign in Newport, Rhode Island. The brief demanded stamina, refinement and the ability to cross oceans without hesitation ? qualities that still define her. The early drawings, correspondence and technical notes from Giles? office reveal a yacht engineered not as an accessory, but as an essential part of the racing effort.

Her years as a French Navy training vessel added another layer to her structural credibility, while her later life under photographer Peter Lindbergh ushered in the collaboration with Christian Liaigre. That partnership introduced the understated, sculptural interior language that now runs through the yacht: dark timber floors, precise lines, generous volumes and a quietly flowing arrangement that feels both modern and faithful to the spirit of a classic yacht.

The vessel?s provenance is unusually well preserved. Her documentation spans:

Interior

LA FENICE?s interior captures the warmth and proportion of a classic yacht, balanced with the clean, understated detailing characteristic of Christian Liaigre. Large windows, generous headroom and an unbroken flow between spaces create an unusually open and inviting interior for a yacht of this size and vintage. ?She was the first Christian Liaaigre boat and onne can see many of her design details mirrored in later vessels that came under the mastery of Studio Liaigre.

Current Use & Operational Status

LA FENICE is very much a living yacht rather than a showpiece. She has remained in regular use under her present owner, undertaking cruising between Ibiza and Sitges, an extended presence during the 37th America?s Cup, and ongoing time aboard in the Ebro Delta. Her owner participates as signed crew, keeping a close connection with the boat?s operation and ensuring she is exercised, tested and enjoyed as intended.

She is operated with a full-time crew, with a structured maintenance and improvement programme already established for the coming seasons, including the planned winter works for 2025/26.?This consistent operational rhythm preserves her mechanical health and confirms that she remains a reliable, travelling yacht ? maintained, used and cared for on a continuous basis.

Sustainability & Stewardship

LA FENICE?s environmental approach is shaped by her owner?s background in historic conservation and low-energy design, demonstrating how a classic?29-metre?yacht can operate with a lighter footprint than many modern vessels. The guiding principle is straightforward: restore what endures, refine what matters, and engineer efficiency into every stage of operation.

Her?reconditioned Gardner engines?? rebuilt to full specification ? deliver exceptionally low fuel consumption and extended service intervals, using only a fraction of the fuel required by contemporary engines in her class. Throughout the refit, key systems were reconsidered through life-cycle assessments to reduce long-term impact rather than simply minimise upfront emissions.

Significant sustainability measures include:

• Long-life Coppercoat hull protection, applied at commercial thickness for 25-year durability, reducing maintenance cycles and environmental release.
• A combined MARPOL-compliant black and grey water treatment plant, processing approximately 3,200 L/day and reducing greywater discharge by roughly 90%.
• Right-sized power generation, with onboard loads recalibrated to run efficiently on a downsized 25 kW generator.

These engineering decisions give LA FENICE an unusually light operational footprint for a 29-metre motor yacht, showing how responsible cruising and classic yacht preservation can align naturally and effectively.
