Accommodations
The Catalina 445 features one of the most versatile and comfortable interior layouts afloat. She is ideally suited as a live-a-board or for cruising on epic adventures with family and friends.
One of the most innovative and unique features of the interior is the multifunctional third stateroom. This air-conditioned area can easily be converted into a double berth or utilized as an upper and lower berth. When not needed for guests, it can be converted to a storage compartment/workbench with additional access from a hatch in the cockpit.
The warm and inviting owner's stateroom is forward with a centerline double berth that has an electric motor to raise the head of the bed up for reading or watching TV. A vanity is located to the port and a hanging locker to starboard with additional storage under the berth. The large owner's ensuite head has a separate shower stall and is well-ventilated.
The large open main salon has a large U-shaped dining table that folds into itself to form a cocktail table or lowers to form a double berth. The starboard settee can be converted into two side seats with a small table between them, which is ideal for playing games or for holding snacks and drinks during "happy hour". Abundant light enters the main salon through the numerous opening hatches and fixed ports in the deck and hull.
The forward-facing navigation station is to starboard with the AC/DC electrical panels located outboard. Next aft is the double door, guest head with access from either the main salon or aft guest cabin.
The starboard guest stateroom features a double berth angled for easier access and standing headroom.
The overall accommodations plan gets the nod for comfort and construction quality, but the port aft cabin "flex space" has been particularly well received. It can be configured as a guest cabin, a workshop, a big stowage area, or anything in between. There is a wonderful double berth that folds up to give a walkway and an upper berth that folds up also..

There are five main components: Hull, structural grid, hull liner, deck and molded deck liner, with a collision bulkhead forward. The grid catches the load of keel, mast and tankage. Like the liners (which also make a structural contribution), the grid has "chases" for clean runs and updates of electrical wiring. The fiberglass hull is cored from the waterline up with balsa. The deck is also balsa-cored except where winches and other gear are mounted. Furniture sub assemblies are not structural, Douglas says, "so that everything ends up in the right place." The company is sticking with lead, not iron, for its keels, which is one reason why Catalina's price point is a bit north of other manufacturers.
