OverviewThe Hinckley Sou'wester 42 combines beauty, comfort, performance and build quality like no other yacht. Magic Dragon is a prime example and features the shoal draft keel/centerboard with masthead sloop rig. Unlike many SW 42's Magic Dragon is equipped and used for cruising.
DescriptionsAccommodations
Magic Dragon features the standard Sou'wester 42 layout that comfortably sleeps up to six. The varnished Ash interior produces a brighter finish for a relatively light and airy feel below. The cabin sole is solid teak and holly, finished with satin varnish. Numerous portlights, windows, (1) opening porthole, (2) hatches and (4) dorade vents provide excellent light and ventilation. Other features include 12v fans, clock & barometer, and an Espar diesel heater. Layout starting forward: FORWARD CABIN The Forward Cabin forward features a large V-berth with filler, along with a small seat on centerline. A large overhead hatch lets in plenty of light and air. There is great storage space including a bureau to port, hanging locker to starboard, sliding lockers outboard of berths and additional drawers and large spaces under the berth. Private access to the Head is aft to port. HEAD The Head is located just aft of the Forward Cabin to port with access from both the Main and Forward Cabins.
MAIN CABIN Continuing aft is the main salon, featuring pull-out settee berths port & starboard, both with outboard pilot berths. There is a large solid Ash centerline drop-leaf table that seats six comfortably. Forward to starboard is a hanging locker, cabinet with drawers and a bookshelf. Aft to starboard is a bottle locker. GALLEY The large U-shaped Galley is located aft of the companionway steps to port. NAV STATION A full-sized forward-facing nav station is across to starboard featuring a large opening chart table with three drawers beneath and access outboard to electrical panels and navigation equipment. There is a built-in curved nav seat with storage under. QUARTERBERTH Aft of the Nav Station to starboard is a small quarterberth (and excellent sea-berth) with locker storage and a long shelf. GalleyThe U-shaped galley is located at the base of the companionway steps to port.
Magic Dragon features a shoal-draft keel/centerboard and a skeg hung rudder. The hull is hand laid fiberglass and is cored with Airex foam for additional strength per weight, except in areas of high load where the laminate is solid fiberglass. Hull stringers are also cored with Airex and are integrated with the mast step and engine mounts to form a single unit that is strong and light. The deck is set in a 6" flange on the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.
