Overview

Gypsea Rover is an impressive Hylas 54, which won Cruising World magazine's Best Boat of the Year award for full-sized cruisers over 48 feet.

This 2004 model was commissioned by two experienced American sailors for their retirement circumnavigation, which they used to cruise through the Caribbean, Panama Canal and across the Pacific.

On arrival in Australia, changed circumstances led to the sale of of Gypsea Rover to the next owners who commissioned German Frers to design the custom hard dodger and completed other modifications and upgrades.

Gypsea Rover is Hull #31 and the first Hylas to be upgraded with a triple-spreader rig and 125 HP engine.  She has taken her owners safely and comfortably along the east coast of Australia, to New Zealand, Fiji and New Caledonia, and she now is cruising in Asia.

This well-equipped family cruiser and passage maker has excellent capacity, making her as autonomous to the degree of provisioning you can carry.

She features over 1000 litres of diesel capacity, solar panels, water maker and a large volume of refrigeration, which is significantly more than most production vessels of her size.

Gypsea Rover is built to last and confidently tackle any ocean environment. Hylas build their hulls with Twaron, an aramid fibre (similar to Kevlar), layered with solid fibreglass, making it extremely strong. Luxurious teak joinery and sole give a calming and elegant feeling down below.

The aft cabin on the Hylas 54 makes full use of her beam which carries all the way aft and is a very generous cabin that has a well-proportioned ensuite and separate shower.  There is an abundance of hanging space and drawers which would suit liveaboards.

The longitudinal galley boasts ample bench space and loads of refrigeration and has been perfectly design for optimal practicality at sea. The salon is filled with natural light with the NAV station close to the companionway.  A full dining table and settee make this a very livable and social part of the yacht.

The centre cockpit with hard top provides a safe environment that is well protected from all elements to sail and control the yacht.  Davits for the tender make launch and retrieval a breeze with ease of access provided by the stepped transom.
